SRI LANKA is a teardrop shaped island below India. It has many attractions such as Pinniwala Elephant Orphanage and game parks where there are more leopard per square km than anywhere else in the world. Colombo is the capital. Sri Lanka is the 4th largest producer of tea.
The south coast is open to the same swells that hit Indonesia. However they loose some punch by the time they hit the coastline.
Arugum Bay is situated on the east coast and is the most well known break in Sri Lanka. It is voted one of the best waves in Asia. Just north is Potuvill Point which is compared to The Pass at Byron Bay in Australia and Whiskey Point. South of Arugam Bay is Elephant Rock, Peanut Farm and Panama. Its best to hire a Tuc Tuc and all these waves are within 15 min from Arugum Bay.
Hikkaduwa is becoming well known and is situated on the south west coast. Main Reef is the most consistent spot but also the most crowded. North is Bennys which is a left and can hold good size swell. South of Main Reef is Inside Reef which deals out more power.
Further south is Midigama and Weligama. Midigama Right is hollow and breaks over reef. Midigama Left is a long gentle left point break with an easy take off.
Their are various breaks around here so hire a car or get a tuk tuk and go explore!!!
