BALI is the most popular and well known destination in Indonesia, with familiar surf breaks such as Padang Padang ,Uluwatu, Keramas and Canggu. Bali gets the full force of southern ocean swells direct from the Antarctic with its south-west and south-east coasts being littered with surf spots. (Over 50 surf spots listed plus a few secret ones) The dry winter months (June-Sept) are preferred for surf conditions however this means that these are also the most crowded times. Given a bit of local knowledge it is still possible to find uncrowded perfect breaks in the area. December-January is the least crowded but still has decent waves. Kuta is busy and has litter filled streets with bustling night life! April to November is the surf season. April to October is when the SE trades blow where as November to March is more W-NW so you would want to be on the east coast this time of year. This is also monsoon season.
NUSA LEMBONGAN is a hour boat ride away. Lacerations, Playgrounds and Shipwrecks are the main breaks. Can get crowded when the waves are good.
LOMBOK is a little further. The main break is Desert Point, a long growing, barreling left-hander which is voted one of the Top 10 Waves in the world. Can get crowded when the waves turn on. Many other breaks litter the south coast of Lombok.
G-LAND (Gragagan) has one of the best waves in the world and could be super hollow. Booties are recommended as its very shallow and a 10 min walk along the reef at low tide. Its made up of 4 sections Kongs, Money Trees, Launching Pad and Speedies. Two surf camps sit at the edge of the jungle and right on the beach. Remember a good first aid kit and ding repair kit as its very isolated. Be careful of Malaria and use mosquito spray around sunset.
